Greatest Weaknesses

I have many weaknessess. I love too much. I try too hard. I am too perfect. That is what you should say when asked this in job interviews. It both sounds sincere and is very winning.

Here are some more wonderful responses to the "What is your greatest weakness" question of which we should all be aware, since these people want to be our President. Also, these are hilarious.

John Edwards: My greatest weakness is that I care too much, Tim. For 54 years, I've been fighting. I emerged from the womb with my dukes up, ready to do battle with every fiber of my day-old being.

Hillary Clinton: My greatest weakness is that I get impatient — impatient with people who don't care as much about children as I do.

Barack Obama: My greatest weakness? Sometimes I misplace stuff. I'm a little disorganized. It's probably a good thing I'm not in charge of my own schedule.

Are these people serious? I don't even know them personally and I can come up with some better weaknesses than these. At least Obama had the sense to mention a real weakness, not just a strength dressed up as a "weakness." Ok, it is a dumb question that is not going to yield a great answer, but come on.

Go Mitt. Your greatest weakness is that you are a member of a faith unpopular with the Republican base. Let's hope you can overcome it.

Those quotes are hilarious! And thanks for your good mothering advice. I actually stock-piled most of Charlie's birthday and Christmas presents into a closet for post-baby amusement, and your other ideas are great too.

I remember using the "I care too much about children" (a sophisticated blend of the Edwards-Clinton responses) in my Kiddie Camp interview with Brian at the County Rec Center when I was 15. I haven't come up with a much better answer since then, but it may be clever to use Katie's old line, "I killed a man" -- the interviewer would either laugh hysterically and offer you the job on the spot, or ask you to leave and call security. I think it's worth the gamble, though, especially if you're a presidential candidate from a religion that most of your political base considers to be a cult. :)

I hate that question, but I love those quotes & your commentary made me laugh. If you think about it, one really has no choice but to give a cheesy answer... (Like I going to tell a potential employer that I'm late to everything!) I like your friend Jessica's comment. : )

Katie told an interviewer she had killed a man? I haven't heard this story. I was talking to Katie last night and as we were catching up these words were said "Yeah...I hadn't seen him since the night of the fire at our house." I just think it's so funny, because it was said quickly, like in passing. I heard the story over Christmas and didn't need an explanation, but if anybody had been listening in our conversation they would have been in complete shock. The Smiths always have great stories.

Lynne: yes, all of those quotes are real. I thought Brig was reading me a spoof when I first heard them, too.

Meredith: no, Katie never told anyone she killed a man. She joked with us that she would say "I once killed a man" if ever asked a question about greatest weakness or something similar in an interview.
