The Mean Man

I gave in to my base desires and allowed teenager Andrew to nap from 3 to 5pm yesterday. He needed the sleep, and I needed the break. I knew that I would pay later, but I am sort of an instant gratification kind of person.

As a result, Andrew and Brigham got to spend some quality time together last evening. Brig took Andrew grocery shopping while Will and I eagerly awaited the ice cream from the comfort of our home.

Andrew, always prepared, brought along his "pack-pack" (photo below of said pack, taken at his birthday party last October. He wasn't ready to share that gift with the giver, Piper Cannon.)

As they were leaving the building, they passed a man entering the laundery facilities. Andrew wanted to show him his Lightning Akeen pack-pack. "Hey, guy, look! I have a pack-pack!" and so forth, with explanations of the car featured on the bag etc. The man never even glanced at Andrew.

He tried his best for probably two minutes before he walked back to his dad and declared, "That's a mean guy, Daddy. That guy is mean." He wasn't upset or anything; he said it as a declaration of fact.

I hope he means this in a different way from when I refuse to let him eat Oreos for lunch sometimes and he tells me I am a mean mommy.

Seriously, do you guys carry around cameras at all time to capture THE perfect picture for your blog posts? I wonder because they are consistently dead on with what you are describing.
I doubt that you'll get labeled a mean mommy as long as you don't simply ignore his pleas for an Oreo meal.

I love that photo, too, Lyndsay. I wish we had the whole fight (it became physical) over that backpack videotaped bc I know it would at least make an appearance on AFV (I know you all know what that stands for). Oh, Piper and Andrew both on the grass, rolling, pulling, screaming. It still brings a smile to my face.

that's so cute. somehow ( i have no idea how) - i've so far avoided being called mean....and I am way meaner than you....haha.... Andrew is so cute. Let's play soon!

Well Andrew certainly can never be described as mean (and neither can you)! He's so friendly and outgoing, who couldn't love him? That man was definately mean.
I love that picture! I had the same thought...how on earth did you have the camera ready for that very moment? I'm impressed.

Reading your blog makes me wish I had a life.

Aren't kids hilarious? Grace labels people like that as "grumpy".

I think that waking kids up from naps is one of the most trying things as a parent. I'm always justifying why 10 more minutes won't hurt and suddenly a 1/2 hour has passed. We are at 7 months and I still can't get on a strict schedule. Oh well.

Jamie, great to hear from you! I tried to link over to your blog but it seems to be under construction? Do you guys have any kids? I don't even know where you are living!
